Great Basin National Park Pictures

Our forth stop was Great Basin National Park.  It wasn't a log drive to Great Basin so we slept in and didn't hurry out of our campsite in Salt Lake City.  It wasn't until we were well down the road that we remembered we didn't have reservations and should have hit the road earlier but didn't give it much of a second thought as we were sure we'd be fine.  We continued deeper into desert terrain and I made a big deal about getting on the Loneliest Road in America.  Which wasn't all that lonely, we saw quite a few cars and Lucas made sure to point out how it didn't really seem that lonely.  As you know from Becky's post that we had a bit of a freak out when the first two of the three campgrounds were full for the night but we got lucky and snagged one of the last three sites available at the Baker Creek Campground.  The spot wasn't great during the day as it was full sun but at night it allowed for unobstructed viewing of the night sky which was spectacular.  Marcus and Lucas had fun playing by Baker Creek which was just a ways down the road from our site.  It was rushing too much to get in but they had fun throwing in pine cones from one side of the road and watching them come out the other side of the culverts.  The first full day there we did a 5 mile hike to the bristle cone pines and rock glacier.  It was a beautiful and interesting hike that went mostly well, just fell apart a little on the decent.  The next day we took a tour of the Lehman Caves and hit up the visitors center. I didn't get to hike Wheeler's Peak but I ever get back there I'm going to be sure to make it happen.
