Crater Lake Pictures

Crater Lake, the fun for this stop started back in Bryce Canyon as I kept getting calls from an unknown number, they finally left a message and it was the Crater Lake National Park campground letting us know our reservation is being cancelled. Ah ok, guess it’s usually open by then but it opens based on the snow and weather and it wasn’t going to be open when we were scheduled. So I scrambled to find another campground for us to stay at it was still like 9 days away but how hard it’s to get spots we usually want I was a little worried.  I looked at a 3 or 4 campgrounds close by at Diamond Lake and they were booked up even the old faithful KOA let us down. So searching out farther I found a spot for us to stay in a national forest campground on Lemelo Lake, Poole Creek  Campground about 40 minutes from Crater Lake.

So that was squared away and actually probably worked out for the better it was a good big site and we had a fire going pretty much the whole time we were at the site. Marcus and Samus spent some time chopping wood. Mostly Marcus he had the axe going pretty much all the time. So it was some good old fashion camping. We got in the freezing lake and swam to an island just off the swim beach. Sounded cooler than it was but it was deep and we had to actually swim so a first for us.  We’ve walked to islands in a lake before but hadn’t swam to one. The water being so cold it all lasted about 20 minute and we had to get back to the camper to get warm. On this stop we made the drive and visited Crater Lake, there was quite a bit of snow yet and only a very small part of it was open.  There were a lot of people crammed into a small part of the park so we walked around, got our pictures, ate lunch, had a snowball fight and called it a trip.

We finally did it, slayed our white whale. Oregon consider yourself camped in. We’ve now camped in all the lower 48 states in our now 19 year old camper. Alaska watch out, we’re looking at you.
