Iowa and Indy

Start your engines... and we're off. June is here again (snuck up on us a bit this year), and we've started this year's trip heading east. This year we plan to hit the remainder of continental US states only leaving our white whale of Oregon out there in the Pacific Northwest. The first leg of the trip was supposed to be straightaway to Indianapolis, IN but last-minute Becky declared she wasn't riding that far on the first day and so we left the night before, staying in Iowa. Our first camping in Iowa and we finally got to scratch the elusive Iowa off our list. We got a spot at McIntosh Woods State Park in Clear Lake, IA about 3 hours down the road.  It was just a stopover, we got in before dark, so we got to go for a walk and see the lake before heading off to bed. The next day was a long and uneventful drive day to Indianapolis. We didn't really know what to do with our day in the city. We decided to hit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since seems like a big deal, we're not really race fans but have family that are, and it seemed like they were all very interested in it. It was a small museum but really interesting and everyone really enjoyed it. Still not sure if it really is that good or if our expectations were just so low but none the less it was a really interesting place.

Here are some pictures of our first two days. Next stop West Virgina.

We're in Iowa, McIntosh Woods State Park

Sunset on Clear Lake

Camping spot #1, right by the entrance for a quick getaway.
We just pulled in and turtled it for the night

Our next stop in Indiana at the Indianapolis KOA

We had a swing

Stopped at the Ikea, not that we could buy much on the first leg of the trip.  But sometimes we have to do things Becky wants to do. We looked around and had some meatballs for lunch

Then made our way to the Indianapolis Speedway.

Tearing down the track at 23 mph on the kiss the bricks tour.

Boys chilling on the wall

And it is called the kiss the bricks tour...

so we kissed the bricks.

and Becky with some company

It was all super interesting even though we aren't big race fans.

That night we had supper at the Melting Pot for 2 and a half hours.
It was quite the production
